Lead With Courage

Pull everyone together with a compelling vision.

As president/CEO, Alan Mulally led the Ford Motor Co. from economically distressed to a profitable symbol of American renewal. According to The Street, a few tenets important to Mulally's leadership style include:

Vision. "Leadership means pulling everybody together around a compelling vision," Mulally says.

Relentless implementation. "Pull everybody together around a strategy to implement that compelling vision. Have a clear plan for delivering it."

Transparency. "When you run into an issue, trust the process. Share [problems] with everybody. Then, collectively, you're going to find a way to fix them."

Engage. "People are first. The main thing about [implementing] a compelling vision is to include everybody– pull everybody together around the plan to implement a compelling vision," he says.

Mulally will deliver a keynote address during the joint America's Credit Union Conference/World Credit Union Conference July 12-15 in Denver. Visit CUinDenver2015.org for information.
