5 innovation skills to practice

Anyone can learn to be innovative, says entrepreneur Josh Linkner.

You can innovate better, says entrepreneur and best-selling author Josh Linkner, with these five strategies:

1. Get curious. Ask why, what if, and why not to raise your level of awareness.

2. Crave "what's next?" Be willing to let go of "what was" in favor of "what can be."

3. Defy tradition. Linkner uses the example of the "cronut"a chef's amalgamation of the classic glazed donut and croissant. The foundation of the pastries might be the same but the result has vaulted the "cronut" into a highly sought-after treat.

4. Get scrappy. Learn to "MacGyver." Solve a complex problem in unorthodox ways with limited resources.

5. Adapt fast. Embrace the pivot to craft and enhance your "first" idea.
