QUICK TAKE: Executive variable pay

How CUs compensate their senior teams with bonuses and incentives.

Roughly 75% to 90% of credit union senior executives (EVPs, CFOs, CIOs, COOs) earned some form of variable payóbonuses and/or incentive paymentsóby year-end 2015.

Bonuses are after-the-fact rewards for a job well done; incentives, on the other hand, are awards tied to preset performance criteria.

The median total dollar amount of the variable pay, among those actually being provided such payments, falls between $10,000 and $11,500, depending on the position. Total variable pay increases as credit union asset size increases.

Use the above variable pay information, as well as CUNA's 2016-2017 Total Compensation Report, Senior Executive to identify how your senior executives' base pay, bonuses, incentives and perks compare to those received by senior leadership in other similar credit unions.
